THE Morobe Tertiary students have donated more than 100 seedlings of six different tree species to Busamang primary school for a reforestation programme.
Morobe Tertiary students Union (MTSU) donated the seedlings to the school for reforestation and sustenance of natural biodiversity during World Environment Day last Sunday.
President Jack Maru said they also donated two tablets to the school previously to help with its e-learning programme.
He encouraged students to learn how to use environment sustainably by replacing cut trees with new ones.
“Our natural environment has been decreasing over the years, from pressures for its usage due to urbanisation. Using environment sustainably by planting trees to replace those that were cut will help stabilise effects of global warming,” said Maru.
He said the visit and donation were in the union’s activity plan.
“Visiting rural primary and secondary schools is in our programme for students from different districts to engage with their communities.
“We make awareness on law and order issues, and motivate young children about importance of education so they can concentrate on their studies.”
