Wapenamanda students from of the University of Papua New Guinea and other universities launched an election awareness campaign over the weekend.
The campaign is to inform councillors, church elders and magistrates of the five sub-districts in Wapenamanda, Enga, what the students would be doing when they went out into the local level governments.
Good News Lutheran church Bishop David Piso said next year’s election “will be even worse if the people of Wapenamanda expect to be paid K50 from the intending candidates”.
“This is a very important initiative taken by the students to educate us about not accepting bribes so change must start with us as concerned parents,” he said.
Election awareness co-ordinator Justin Ken said one of the problems was the census and the many ghost names associated with it.
