Tewae-Siassi students at Balob Teachers College in Lae have congratulated Dr Kobby Bomareo for winning his seat and thanked ousted MP Mao Zeming for his services.
President Toovey Steven congratulated MP-elect Bomareo on behalf of the district’s 198 students attending the college.
“On behalf of Tewae-Siassi students, I would like to congratulate Dr Bomareo as the elected member for Tewae-Siassi. I believe that the new member will continue the good work left by former MP.”
Steven said one thing the former MP and the district development authority did was to sponsor students from the district attending Balob.
Matron Keindip Ruth Aine said they were looking forward to Bomareo continuing the school fee assistance programme started by Zeming’s leadership.
“This is because the college produces teachers who go back to the district and serve,” said Aine.
She said they would like the administration, under the new leadership of Bomareo, to sign an agreement with the college so the district’s sponsorship programme would continue and students would go back to serve in rural places within Tewae-Siassi for five to 10 years after graduating.
“In that way, it will improve our human resources because there is need for primary teachers. No one would want to go and serve in remote places in the district, unless it’s someone from the area.”
Aine said teachers in the district faced a lot of problems with housing and if teachers were from there, they could live in their villages and teach to make things lesser.
Meanwhile, the students also thanked former MP Mao Zeming through the DDA for sponsoring students since 2013.
