THREE Grade 12 students from Brahman Secondary School in Madang have been charged for stealing Grade 12 examination papers.
Police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang confirmed that Alex Somo from Pangia in Southern Highlands, John Mamu and Stanley Kamai of Usino-Bundi in Madang, were charged with breaking into and entering the school’s administration building, and stealing.
Rubiang said the students allegedly used a key to gain entry into the office. They then opened the 14 boxes containing the exam papers and took a copy for each subject.
“People around the school premises saw the movement of the students between 12 midnight and 1am last Sunday and reported the matter to the principal,” he said.
“The principal went to check and confirmed that the boxes had been opened and the exam papers removed from each subject box in the office.”
Rubiang said that with the help of school staff and the villagers near the school, the students were identified and reported to police.
He said they managed to retrieve the stolen exam papers from the students.
The students have been barred from sitting the exam and are detained at the Jomba police station cell awaiting their court case.
Examinations at the school continued this week. Rubiang thanked the people for identifying the students and making it easy for the police to arrest them and recover the exam papers.
