Students get Oil Search Foundation scholarship

FIFTEEN students are the first recipients of Oil Search Foundation (OFS) Scholarship this year.
Under the foundation leadership programme, it is providing scholarships for nursing, business management and medical students from this year.
Foundation executive director Stephanie Copus-Campbell said the foundation wanted their scholarships to be different so every student under it would be given not only an opportunity to study but also an opportunity for leadership development and training.
Copus-Campbell said the scholarship package included student tuition fees, fortnightly allowances, leadership training and a privilege of doing practicum with Oil Search.
Male representative, Jonathan Mesa, said students and their families were relieved to have the foundation assist them.
Jasmine Tom, female representative for the scholarship recipients, said students participated in a one-week leadership programme that was aimed at developing their leadership skills.
“The leadership training has made us realise that we have the opportunity and potential to be an active and productive citizen in PNG,” Tom said.
The scholarships include 10 medicine and surgery students from UPNG’s Medical Faculty, two business management students from Pacific Adventist University and three midwifery students from the Madang Lutheran School of Nursing.

  • On behalf of the families of students taking various studies in tertiary schools in the country, I would like to give credits and words of appreciation to Oil Search Limited taking this initiative to provide this scholarship program.

    Hence, and specifically in the Medical and Health Sciences Studies which is of dire need for PNG. I am pleased that not only under this scholarship program Medical and Health Sciences students will only be equipped with medical practices but also be groomed with leadership characters that will support addressing of medical and health issues in the country.
