Students graduate despite challenges

THE high cost of internet service and the language barrier is making it difficult to study at Chinese institutions online, a Papua New Guinea-China graduate says.
Annemaree Komboi was among 30 other students who graduated in various fields at different universities in China this week.
She said given the mentioned difficulties, it was an achievement for Papua New Guineans who would contribute to country’s development.
She said a long and challenging academic year had ended successfully and they had gathered to celebrate the new beginning in their lives.
“This is not the end of your education, it is an everyday journey and it was what you make out of education that helps you find your purpose in life, and I wish you to continue to strive for success and stay with connected with your networks that you have developed through this experience,” Komboi told her fellow graduates.
She urged them not to waste the opportunity and make use of their knowledge and skills in contributed to the nation.
The National spoke with several students and they shared similar hardships of internet costs and language but were able to overcome these and successfully complete their programmes.
Chinese Ambassador Zeng Fanhua congratulated the students saying that more scholarships would be given this year for students to apply.
“They are supposed to graduate in China but because of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) we have them graduated here in PNG,” he said.
Zeng said other students would graduate later this year as soon as they received their papers.
