SCHOOLS in Hela will be checking the temperature of students every morning as a Covid-19 health safety measure, says provincial education adviser Ronny Angu.
They started the routine check at the Tari Secondary School a few weeks ago and all students were healthy.
“Duty teachers have been tasked to check their temperature every 7.30am and any (sickly) student will be reported to the Tari Provincial Hospital,” Angu said.
“The increase in the Covid-19 cases in the country everyday is alarming and every organisation has to do its part to stay alert.”
Teachers are told to monitor social distancing in the classroom, dormitories and mess hall.
Angu said it was challenging for the students and teachers to make up for lost time.
Meanwhile, Tari Secondary School students received new uniforms last month. Margarima and Koroba Secondary, and Paka and Pori High will be receiving theirs soon.
“Uniforms are vital for students. It prevents people from differentiating which family they come from. When students wear uniforms, they are equal and establishes a sense of pride and dignity,” he said.
He said the education division was doing its best to make sure the needs of schools were looked into.
He warned teachers absent from their schools they will be put off the payroll.
