Absence was expected and when Grade 10 pupils at the Bishop Leo Secondary School in Wewak, East Sepik, started their national written expressions examinations yesterday, 11 were missing.
The school says those absent with a good reason would be given estimated marks.
Principal Steven Buin said 11 of the 227 students who were scheduled to sit for their examinations did not show up.
Buin said four withdrew from studies just before the examinations started, one was hospitalised but the remaining six did not give a reason.
Buin said only students with genuine reasons would be given estimated marks.
“Parents of a student who was absent visited the school to deliver a medical report for their son who was admitted at the Wewak General Hospital on Wednesday,”
Buin said. East Sepik education adviser Pius Munkaje said 3403 Grade 10 students across the province were scheduled to sit for their examinations yesterday.
