Students on awareness drive in Sogeri

Education

TWENTY-ONE University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) students from Central’s Hiri-Koiari district visited Iarowari Agro Technical Secondary School to conduct an awareness to motivate, inspire and empower students.
Association president Rodwalters Billy said the highlight of the trip was the donation of books and a special conversation on the entry-requirements for UPNG.
“Since 2019, as part of our association’s goals we have visited four schools in the four parts of the district.”
Billy said the association realised that not all schools in Central know the entry requirements of colleges and universities.
“We discussed the different courses offered at UPNG and representatives from the five schools explained the requirements especially the grade point average and others,” he said.
“Most times, students lack such information and end up putting the wrong choice in their school leaver forms.”
Billy said the awareness was focused on addressing issues like land grabbing, law and order, the significance and importance of small medium enterprises.
He added that aside from the awareness they also shared their stories on their journey and the sacrifices and commitment that got many of them into the university.
