Four students from Fischhafen, Morobe, are seeking assistance from the provincial government to study overseas.
Spokesperson Jack Rukunlinga said they have received their acceptance letters and paid for other requirements but need help with tuition fees.
Rukunlinga said they have written to Finschhafen MP Rainbo Paita seeking help.
They also plan to write to Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu.
“We are from Morobe and we are the human resources of this province,” he said.
“The provincial government has plans for tertiary students studying in the country, what about those of us who are seeking studies overseas?”
Rukunlinga appealed to MPs and businesses in Morobe for assistance.
It is understood that 12 students from the eight districts, apart from Lae, have being selected to study overseas this year. In his New Year’s message last week, Saonu said the province’s Sololu scholarship scheme would run for five years starting now.
He said they were looking for international scholarship providers for both undergraduate and post graduate studies.
The province is looking at an internship programme with the province’s local level governments as part of the scholarship selection programme, Saonu said.
