FIVE senior students from the Oro Students Association of the University of Papua New Guinea, in partnership with the Electoral Commission support programme, will walk the Kokoda Track.
The programme has sponsored the walk, which started last week Friday, for K10,000 as part of the association’s annual Kokoda Challenge programme.
Oro Students Association president Donald Moi said this was the first of its kind for the association to partner with an organisation to support their initiative since the annual challenge started in 2006.
“For the first time, the challenge will see the students carrying out the commission’s awareness and education itinerary to people along the
Kokoda trail,” he said.
“Taking on board the election awareness, we have defined our objectives to carry out much needed election awareness and education through the proposed Kokoda Trail Election Awareness Project.
“We want to bring about an attitude change and facilitate change where possible through information-sharing and education during the implementation.
“The activities will feature the LPV Awareness, polling and counting, awareness on good governance, enrolment awareness and general electoral awareness,” Moi said.
He said this was the initial stage of the partnership and they were determined as a student group to make the most of the opportunity so that it could help
them continue the partnership in the future.
