Students told to report fights

Gerehu Police Station commander Robert Kurei has urged students in Port Moresby to report school fights to police.
He said a fight between students of two schools in the Gerehu area last week was the result of students posting comments about each other on Facebook.
“I am deputy chairman of a school in Port Moresby and one of the challenges I see most schools are facing is fights between students from different institutions,” he said.
Kurei said the cause for those fights might vary from institution to institution but it was important that students helped their parents and the school administration to report the issues.
“Police are here to protect you and the society but they need your assistance to be able to respond to prevent further damage,” he said.
Kurei said it was difficult for police to be everywhere.
“It is time to set standards as students so if you see one of your fellow students misbehaving, you approach them and tell them this is wrong,” he said.
Kurei said if there was retaliation, the matter should be reported to the authorities.
