STUDENTS from secondary schools in Central and the National Capital District have been told to make use of opportunities which will shape their future.
Port Moresby International School teacher Joyce Nindivi said during the opening of the 2018 school debate parliament debates were “not up to standard”.
“We wish to equip our young generation with good debating skills as they proceed further in their lives,” she said.
“The common problem students are facing is public speaking and openly communicating and interacting with other people from all walks of life.” The Em Stret School Challenge allows high school students to debate ongoing issues, make friends and build a network.
The event is free and open to all high schools who wish to participate.
Taking part currently are 10 schools – two from Central and eight from the National Capital District.
“We are taking up the roles of facilitators by bringing our students to the debates and helping them achieve their aims and goals,” Nindivi said.
“It is tiring and challenging but to see them advancing and becoming better and successful citizens is rewarding for us as teachers.”
