Students visit five schools

AVISAT students association members from the University of Papua New Guinea visited five elementary schools in the Kieram local level government area of Angoram in East Sepik last month to promote early childhood education.
The schools were Kambramba, Samban Central, Bopaka, Kambuku Lutheran and Makendo.
Student leader Dipson Ban said they shared some of their personal testimonies to motivate and encourage the children to pursue their studies as early as possible.
He said early childhood education was the foundation to lifetime education.
“We believe that education is the way forward for the least developed district,” he said.
“It’s time we, students from the district stand to encourage, inspire and motivate our young ones about the importance of education.”
They wanted more students going to colleges and universities, Ban said.
He said it was part of their community service initiative programme, deciding not to spend holidays with family, but with people in the rural areas to serve and help communities.
Ban said the students donated 300 solar lights to the schools, each receiving 50, except Kambuku who received 100, because it was the most remote school and had a larger number of students.
The lights were from SolarBuddy International Australia, who worked in partnership with the Kokoda Track Foundation, he said.
The students thanked business houses and individuals who supported in cash or kind.
