Students wrong

Letters

PALSAKI Junior High School Roma was established since 2021.
It is located in one of the pockets of Yamil Tamawi local level government, Maprik, East Sepik.
Recently, the school’s principal was assaulted by one of his own students for issuing project fee notices to students as the Government’s tuition fee subsidy was delayed since last year for unknown reasons.
The situation was provoked by a Grade 10 student on Aug 15 at 8.10am,right after the students were dismissed from assembly.
The principal (name withheld) said: “I was only performing my administrative duty and was assaulted for no reason and such unruly and disrespectful behaviour from our own students is really uncalled for and should be condemned by appropriate authorities to avoid future similar recurrences.
“The attack was pre-planned in which a student came with a bush knife tucked in his trousers.”
While the duty officer was questioning the student for being late, the student then swore at him.
Upon hearing that, the principal went to the scene quickly and questioned the student again.
However, the student denied the allegations and, to their surprise, he pulled out the bush knife and started chasing the principal.
The locals never showed any sympathy for the principal but, instead, supported the perpetrator and started chasing the principal’s local students out of the classrooms with sling shots, knives, stones, etc.
Since its establishment in 2021, Palsaki started its academic year with such challenges and assaults on students, teachers and administration staff.
This is becoming a norm now and should be stopped.
Given that scenario, classes were suspended for indefinite period in term 3 and have since resumed but the incident involving the principal is yet to be resolved to restore normalcy.
When are these issues going to be addressed to create a level playing field for us the people of Yamil Tamawi?
