AN outdoor live art studio has been set up at Waigani Central in Port Moresby to inspire young artists.
This is a collaboration between the City Pharmacy Ltd Foundation and noted Papua New Guinean artist Ratoos Haoapa Gary.
CPL Group managing director Mahesh Patel said PNG was rich with traditional culture, art, colour and designs that could be lost if nothing was done to preserve it and enable its continuity.
He said Ratoos was a talented artist whose work had been recognised overseas and he has so much knowledge, learning and creativity that can be passed on to others.
He said the purpose of the project was to revive the art industry in the country.
“Let’s get art back into the main frame,” Patel said.
“Art is not only business.
“Art is a mindset and it teaches discipline and a lot of lessons in life.”
Patel said Ratoos would be at the Hardware Haus storefront for the duration of the art project which would take 14 to 15 months to finish.
He said it was a long-term project where things would evolve.
“It’s really to inspire our shoppers and especially the youngsters.”
