Sumkar gets K2mil for electricity supply

THE National Planning Office has approved K2 million for the supply of electricity to parts of Sumkar district in Madang, says MP Chris Nangoi.
He said he was notified in a letter that K2 million was approved and funds would be made available to PNG Power for power to be connected.
Nangoi said power in the north coast part of his electorate stopped at Mirap.
The current assistance would take electricity all the way to Kumil, near Malala, where the Sumkar electorate boundary starts.
Nangoi said having access to electricity was one of the basic services his people needed.
“When you have power, you can use a refrigerator to keep food and meat fresh while in the village,” he said.
“You can make your tea using an electric jug and do many other things with power.”
Nangoi said the payment included supplying power to areas off the main North Coast Highway along selected feeder roads.
He said the Government’s goal was to have 70 per cent of the rural population connected to electricity.
