Sumkar MP and Correction Service minister Chris Nangoi, Treasury Minister and Bulolo MP, Sam Basil and Civil Aviation Minister Lekwa Gure accompanied by Raicoast MP Peter Sapia, Markham MP Konny Iguan and Minyamya MP Thomas Pelika visited Karkar Island on Friday and Saturday.
The ministers opened the Rasi Bridge funded by Sumkar DDA; Basil launched the five year development plan for the district and opened the newly built house for the district finance manager.
Basil also officiated at the official presentation of two motor bikes for village court magistrates on the island.
All the six MPs present were given a spade each for the ground breaking of a new Sumkar headquarters.
Nangoi said the district headquarter received K1 million from the national government to build the district office building for public servants to use.
Karkar islanders also took the chance to announce their request to the Gure to consider reviving the run down Kinim aid post.
Basil encouraged Nangoi and other MPs to revisit the government’s rural airstrip agency programme to improve airstrips in their districts.
