Summary Offences Act

Letters

WHILE we appreciate the legislature’s efforts to toughen up the Summary Offences Act, we are yet to see a significant improvement in the over-crowded and dilapidated state of our prisons.
Correctional Service is a vital element in the law and justice sector, but it seems much of the State’s effort and resources
focus on the RPNGC and the judiciary.
Simple logic suggests that when you increase capacity/productivity in the RPNGC and the courts, you will get an increase in the number of prisoners.
Unless our prison capacities are improved, mass breakouts will continue to make news headlines for CS, while the RPNGC and judiciary make positive news headlines.
