Summit will strengthen B’ville’s economy: Sir Puka

THE Government believes that economic empowerment is the way forward for the people of Bougainville.
Minister for Bougainville Affairs Sir Puka Temu said the Bougainville Economic Investment Summit would alleviate Bougainville’s economy and eventually build towards fiscal self-reliance.
“We believe it is important and for the incoming president who specifically requested an economic summit,” he said.
“There is strong opinion we need to ensure businesses continue to operate in Bougainville particularly at the SME level.
“The PM secured K200 millions of SME fund and from that 10 percent will be dedicated to Bougainville businesses. This commitment is secured in the budget and is dedicated to Bougainville business.
“How to secure it is what the PM and the President will be discussing. The government must continue to deliver goods and services. The Government will also stand by to ensure that there is support to the ABG in building and improving its internal capacity.”
