REIGNING premiers Taurama Suns delivered a killer blow to end Koboni’s unbeaten run in Round 7 of the Port Moresby AFL competition at the UPNG Oval on Saturday.

It was a final quarter burst that saw the Suns sink four goals and a behind to seal the match.

The Demons had the game in their grasp leading by 15 points heading into the final term 4.5 (29) to 2.2 (14).

But the Suns staged a dramatic fight back in the final quarter to win the match 6.3 (39) to 4.6 (30).

Suns coach Cornelius Popau said his team had now found its winning formula and was now back on the track to defend its title.

“We’ve been trying fit the pieces to the jigsaw together since losing a few of our premiership players from last year and now we’ve found a combination that we think can defend the premiership in 2015,” Popau said.

Koboni coach Douglas Lai attributed the Demons’ loss to poor kicking with champion goal kicker Amua Pirika missing all his shots from convertible positions during the game.

In the other game on Saturday, the Gerehu Magpies edged out a strong Bomana Cats by 10 points 9.3 (57) to 6.5 (47).

Standings: Koboni 24, Kokofas 24, Magpies 20, Tigers 20, Cats 18, Suns 14, Bombers 8, Dockers 8, Defence 4, West 0.
