I COMMENT on the current issue faced by Lae City FC in regard to their players’ withdrawing or sacked by the club owner.
This does not look good because some of the players are key members of the national team, the Kapuls.
Remember what happened last OFC Nations cup in 2016 when Hekari United FC lost to the Solomon Islands after key players withdrew from the team?
The matches could have easily been won by us.
The previous year, we made it to the final against New Zealand on home soil.
Who can forget that glorious moment for PNG football?
It is so unfortunate that another ugly situation has developed; this time in Lae with the players from the defending NSL champions involved.
We hope this saga does not affect our national team during this year’s OFC Nations tournament.
It would not be good if the affected members of Lae City FC do not make the national team.
The Kapuls need these boys.
Help them maintain their fitness and keep playing so they could make it at a higher level at the NSL.
If not with their club then maybe PNGA could draw up their training regime to allow them to keep themselves in top shape.
We cannot just say we have other talents to make up the national team.
Experience of playing at the OFC level for a number of years matters, therefore, the Kapuls need these players.
On another note, the transfer window for players was too short and did not help players and their clubs.
It should be extended to 14 days or more.
