WOMEN’S rugby league in Surinki, Lagaip, Enga, has been a hit in the community with the games attracting hundreds to see the action over the past few weeks.
Observer Komson Kome said the support the women’s game was getting was impressive.
“I’m delighted to announce through this worthy medium that the last couple of women’s rugby league games in Sirunki have attracted a bumper crowd,” Kome said.
“The crowds have been the kind one would expect to find for a big game or a Digicel Cup game.
“People from all corners of thedistrict come in as early as 8am on the game day to cheer up their favourite teams.”
Kome said many of the people he spoke to were appreciative of the part the women’s games were playing in driving peace and harmony into the community.
He commended the Wabag Rugby League for introducing women’s games to Surinki.
Sirunki hosted two games last week at the Sirunki police station field.
SSR Sisters team 2 played the Porgera Nuggets while Yaskom SSR Sisters took on Lupsco Kinjons in the other game. The games again attracted a large crowd.
