BIRTHDAYS are especially meant to be celebrated with families, relatives and friends with big parties.
However, for Port Moresby car dealer, 2 Fast Motors Limited’s chief executive officer Billy Lin, who turned 40 on Wednesday, that was not be.  Instead of celebrating with family, he decided to donate what was intended for his special day to a charity organisation.
The fortunate charity was Gerehu-based Life PNG Centre.
“Even if this is a special day for me, there is no celebration for me because I want to give something back to the needy ones who need the support from the corporate sector and government organisations.
“This is not a political campaign as many may think because I did that before in the community.”
Lin selected the Life PNG Centre to present his 40th birthday cake and food stuff worth over K6000 to the orphans at the centre.
“Some people may think that I’m crazy but this is the best thing I’m doing in my life as a foreign businessman who has lived in the country for more than 19 years.
“In the past I supported sports and other organisations but have seen that many orphans roam the streets and LPNGC takes care of their needs and supports them,” Lin said.
“This moved me to give something to the centre which is taking  responsibility to raise the unwanted children.
“My heart is with you and the children so today I came to deliver my contribution on behalf of my wife Cherry and myself,” he told Life PNG director Collin Pake and the residents of the centre
Lin’s wife also encouraged Pake to place drop boxes in her stall at the Vision City mall.
Pake said he was surprised by the gesture from a Chinese businessman who came to his doorsteps to give to the needy at the centre.
He said the contribution meant a lot as he took care of 72 orphans who were currently residing at the centre and attending schools in Port Moresby.
“Thank you, thank you, the children will be surprised when they return from the school to see this birthday cake and wonder who brought it.”
Four of the children raised at the centre attend Marienville Secondary School and Port Moresby National High School. The younger ones are in elementary and primary schools.
