POLICE have given police fugitive Evera Kivovia until Sunday to surrender or police will come after him, police policing officer in-charge Insp Robert Wane says.
First Const Kivovia, accused of bashing his wife, escaped from the Gordon Police Station on Wednesday after he was allowed to talk to his wife and children.
He was in police custody pending investigations.
He has been given until Sunday to turn himself in.
Insp Wane told The National that First Const Kivovia was allowed out of cell to talk to his wife Christina Leo and children.
He disappeared from the room they were sitting in.
“We have made dialogue with his family to assist police to re-arrest him. Police will be constantly checking all his family homes and other venues,” he said.
He said a police team was tasked find him.
“The suspect must know that he has no place to go, police will still catch him,” Insp Wane said.
He said the team would also be patrolling Magi Highway to Gulf and Central areas.
First Const Kivovia, 38, from Gulf, and attached to Waigani police, was arrested and charged last year for assaulting his wife but was released on bail.
Leo, 22, from Gulf and Central, and her husband have four children.
She is five months pregnant.
Leo told The National recently that she had been through six years of physical abuse and assault
