Suspect involved in gang rape arrested, five at large

POLICE in Madang have arrested one of the suspects involved in a gang rape incident on Saturday at Jant Compound.
Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said police arrested the man in town on Monday after a tip-off from the public.
The man is from Kirane village in Southern Highlands and resides at Jomba Brick Settlement.
“Five are still on the run.
“The victims were assisted to the hospital by officers from the sexual offence squad unit and treated,” he said.
Rubiang warned the other suspects still on the run to give themselves in to police.
Police also arrested a drug suspect along the North Coast Road.
The officers stationed at the Talidig police post were conducting routine checks on vehicles when they arrested the 25-year-old man from Kondoma village in Western Highlands.
He was charged with being in possession of dangerous drugs and detained at the Jomba police station cell.
Supt Rubiang warned people who produce, consume and have in their possession drugs that they would be charged and refused bail.
“Therefore, I appeal to marijuana producers, consumers and sellers it in the community to do away with that.”
