Suspicious trip by Central leaders to Aroma Coast

Letters

I WISH to bring to the public notice the conduct of some of our national leaders in the lead-up to the general elections.
Last Friday, while most of our leaders humbled themselves and honoured the country’s late Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio by attending his funeral service at Ela Beach Catholic Church, a senior state minister and his party travelled to Pelagai village in the Central province to attend the opening of a pastor’s house.
National Alliance Party leader and the Minister for Treasury Patrick Pruaitch, Kairiku-Hiri MP Peter Isoaimo, intending candidate Dr Wari Iamo and former MP Arthur Somare saw fit to ignore the late governor-general and his family and the important occasion in Port Moresby.
They flew out by chopper to campaign for their candidate on the pretext of attending a church pastor’s house opening ceremony on the Aroma Coast.
The question is who funded the chopper for the election trip? It is understood that they had no role to play and in the programme as they had no prior contribution to the project.
For the record, the project was funded by the Abau District Administration through the local MP Sir Dr Puka Temu and Governor for Central Kila Haoda was to be the main guest at the opening but
they sent their apologies for not attending because of the funeral service.
Can someone shed light on the hire of the chopper?
In Australia, former Speaker of Federal Parliament Bronwyn Bishop had to step down because she used public funds to attend a birth day party for a friend.
Only last week the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the Victorian State Parliament also stepped down because of questions about the use of public funds.
Can the Ombudsman please check this out?
