Switch off mobile phones in Parliament, says Pomat

National Parliament Speaker Job Pomat has called on MPs to switch off their mobile phones when in Parliament.
“I want to remind the MPs that they must either switch off their phones or put it on silence mode when coming into the chamber during Parliament session,” he told MPs.
Meanwhile, Central Bougainville MP Sam Akoitai said that he was not happy during grievances debate when MPs and ministers walked out of the chamber.
“They are supposed to stay and hear the grievances debate. This is the only opportunity for all of us to express our grievances and ministers should be here to listen to our comments because we represent our people,” he said.
“They can say that they will read it from handsets but I don’t believe it. Not every one of us read the handsets.
“I want to commend Prime Minister Peter O’Neill who always stays back during grievance debate.”
