System set to cover regional operations

A BANKING system to be introduced to the Bank South Pacific Group will see “less autonomy” in its businesses operating in the region.
Chief executive Robin Fleming said this was to set uniform efficiencies in its regional operations, especially in Fiji’s case.
He was responding to questions about how the BSP business in Fiji was operating more independently as compared to others in the region.
“It is driven by their system and systems drive a lot of change management activities,” Fleming said.
“Fiji has a system – the TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) bank system – that we inherited when we purchased it from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
“The systems that countries other than PNG and Fiji use is an ICBS (Integrated Computerised Banking System) system although we have an international-based version.
“When we introduce this new system, everyone will be on it.
“That will drive the change and make them less autonomous.”
Fleming said the bank planned to have more digital transactions in Papua New Guinea and the region.
“If we can get greater traction, then hopefully ATM transactions will decrease and people will become more used to using other forms of digital banking through their phones and the internet,” he said
