MOROBE Governor Ginson Saonu says the new integrated financial management system (IFMS) is slow.
Saonu told finance officers during a two-day financial management workshop for the Highlands and Momase regions in Lae last week the system “maybe good in theory” but bad practical-wise.
“Morobe has faced some problems with the new system.
“Service delivery using IFMS is very slow. I believe some of my colleagues in the highlands provinces are also facing the same.
“We’ve being experiencing a very slow process in processing cheques since the system was introduced in the province. Our development projects are delayed.”
He however acknowledged Finance Secretary Dr Ken Ngangan for moving the government accounting system from the provincial government accounts system to the integrated financial management system. He urged the technical team from the finance department to improve the system.
Saonu said the system was new and cold be experiencing teething problems, but it must not hold up development.
“Development partners have raised concerns regarding the slow process in making payments.”
