THE integrated criminal case system database and electronic case management system will improve the digital recordings of court cases, an official says.
Registrar of the Supreme Court and National Court Ian Augerea said that the case management system in the courts will be more effective once the two systems were fully functional. “When these two systems come into play in our court systems around the country, it will be all electronic and that means the courts will move away from the hard copy court records to soft copy,” he said.
He was at a one-day workshop in Lae attended by lawyers, police prosecutors, prison officers and court staff from Lae. The Supreme and National Courts will be rolling out the electronic case management systems in Morobe next month.
When fully implemented, all registration of new court cases will be processed through these systems.
Augerea said everybody connected to a particular case would be updated of its progress.
The systems are being piloted in Port Moresby, Morobe and Madang.
“We have experienced backlog of cases dating back years. Through these two systems, the backlog of cases will be cut down and manageable,” he said.
