A TOUR of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Twenty-20 (T20) World Cup trophy in Papua New Guinea ended at the home of domestic cricket, Amini Park, yesterday.
Accompanied by ICC officials, the trophy arrived in the country on Sunday for a three-day tour.
Cricket PNG (CPNG) game development manager Margaret Sibona said the tour was recognition for the Barramundis’ maiden appearance in the World Cup.
“We’re proud to promote the trophy in the country,” she said.
“This is the reward for the Barras’ efforts.”
The trophy visited Fisherman Island on Monday as part of the tour which was overseen by CPNG. The trophy was accompanied by dignitaries from cricket-playing countries.
The officials included New Zealand High Commissioner Phillip Taula, British High Commissioner Keith Scott, Australian High Commission officials and CPNG staff.
Yesterday, the trophy took part in a motorcade in Port Moresby before ending its PNG tour at Amini Park. “We had the privilege of showcasing the trophy around the city,” Sibona said yesterday.
“We visited several places, including the National Parliament and Apec House.”
A tournament was hosted to mark the end of the tour in the country with the Cup to continue its journey this week.
