Taekwondo doing part for women

STONES Taekwondo in conjunction with NCD Taekwondo will roll out its ‘Girl Power’ programme on Saturday at the Sir John Guise Indoor Stadium.
The programme is aimed at complementing other programmes by non-governmental organisations on the issue of violence against women and girls.
Stones Taekwondo founder Jamuga Stone said he felt empowering women with skills and knowledge to protect themselves was the way forward.
“Instances of violence against women are one common complaint with police so we all should do our parts to ensure we respect our womenfolk,” Stone said.
“I think equiping our women and girls with self defence skills helps address this problem but our men also have to take more responsibility for their actions.”
The Girl Power programme is from Oct 13 to Nov 18.
Registrations started last Friday and will close on Friday.
The programme fee is K400 per person.
Stone said participants could deposit K280 in advance to secure their places. Martial arts certificates will be awarded upon completion of the programme. There are only 50 spaces available.
