THE Nigerian Under-20 women’s soccer team, the Falconets, were given a rousing welcome by local fans at the Jackson International Airport yesterday.
For the African visitors, it was their first time to come to Papua New Guinea.
The African women with their team management stopped their bus and joined the welcome reception from the Moresby South village of Taikone, taking photographs with their tablets and mobile phones.
They said the reception made them feel at home and they would remember it as their first impression of PNG. The Africans spent some time with their fans before leaving for their hotel, cheering and waving to the welcome party.
They were relaxed and welcomed their first morning in PNG with smiles and happy faces.
The host cheer party were dressed in Nigeria’s green and white and waved the country’s national flag to welcome the team.
Leis and woven caps were tossed to the visitors by the local cheer girls.
The cheer girls from Taikone will be out in full force to support the Nigerians in their campaign during the World Cup.
