Tailoring training helps African learn to sew

AN African woman, who loves tailoring and took part in a training facilitated by the Infinite Fashion and Design in Morobe, says she learnt a lot from it.
Jennett Mutuma said: “I benefited a lot from the training and it is rewarding. I learnt how to use the sewing machine, how to design and sew the dress and the Fijian Bula shirt.”
She added that being among Papua New Guinea women made her felt welcome.
“They’re friendly, accommodating and willing to teach me what they can do,” she said.
Her biggest problem is communicating in Tok Pisin as this is her first year in the country.
Mutuma, a mother of four from Zimbabwe, was informed about the training by Biru Menau, the owner of the Infinite Fashion and Design, at the Church of Christ which she and her family usually attended in Lae. The one-week training was conducted last month, covering the art of sewing a lady’s dress with a coat and the Fijian Bula shirt. She was one of the 12 women who attended the training.
They were taught how to measure, cut and sew a dress. Then they are taught how to sew the coat that goes with the dress.
Menau praised the women for attending the training even though it was just for one week only.
“My next training is planned for January 15 to 19 this year,” Menau said.
