Taking vaccine ‘voluntary’

Main Stories

THE uproar over the new Covid-19 domestic measures has forced Controller and Police Commisoner David Manning assuring Papua New Guineans that taking the vaccine is still voluntary.
He told The National that the intent of the measures was to include a sixth category under Schedule 1 of the Domestic Measure No. 3.
“If you are not vaccinated then you cannot travel is entirely false,” he said.
“If anyone can prove that there is anything sinister on it, I would be more than happy to resign as the Controller tomorrow.
“Our intent is always honourable and always fully respectful of our people’s individual rights.”
Manning also confirmed that Prime Minister James Marape had asked to revoke the measures because “he thinks it is too technically worded and left it open for misinterpretation and misinformation”.
“That is why I have reissued the measures in a simpler way and added it as the 6th category for those who can travel,” he said.
“Now it cannot be misconstrued or misinterpreted as infringing on people’s rights.
“We continue to respect the rights of all citizens in the country and the measure was in no way designed to force anyone to be vaccinated.
“As we return to the new normal, it will be the way of the future in which those vaccinated may be able to travel freely, especially overseas.
“Our intent is to continue to see what is happening in light of the vaccination programmes.
“We will make amendments to measures as we go along.”

  • BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, YOUR PEOPLE & YOUR COUNTRY…

MAKE YOUR OWN MEASURE FOR THE GOOOD OF OUR COUNTRY.

STOP LISTERNING TO THIS SO CALLED NGO’S W.H.O Groups or Whoever so-called Consultants whos BEHIND YOUR BACK..

    PLEASE;
TRUST YOURSELF, YOUR PEOPLE & YOUR COUNTRY

  • Just forget about that vaccine thing. PNG Gov’t STOP getting the vaccine. If the AstraZenaca or whatever is down, let it be. This things have causing a lot of confusions and doubt and thus affect people’s life.

  • And bear in mind that not all Papua New Guineans are well educated. Always be mindfull when introducing new measures by keeping it simple for all to read and understand…Noken lus tingting long TOK PISIN because 90% of PNGeans speak and understand it.

If the laws (measures) are meant for the people then take into perspective the literacy rate of our people….

  • Government needs to focus more on education, so that the channel of communications may be understandable.
Regarding the decision made my PC, restricting citizens to take vaccine on domestic flight is very disrespectful/disgrace. He is totally depriving our citizens right.
WHO EVER WANTS TO GET VACCINE, LET THEM TAKE IT; OTHERWISE LET US DECIDE BY OUR WILL POWER.

    • In other words….
You must be vaccinated if you want to trsvel domestically snd internationally. Sounds like mandatory vaccination to me. What choice do people have? Walk the bloody Kokoda Trail?

  • Police Commissioner, Stand up and do what is right for the country, respecting the customs, and our culture and identity. Ino olgeta time Bai mipla tok yes masta. Not everything introduced by ” Whiteman” will give us advantages. Sometimes it is designed for their advantages. Stop listening to outsiders and do what you know is right. We are a independent sovereign nation. Act like one. If you can see the reason behind the uproar on your last media publicity, it clearly shows where your directions are coming from because obviously you haven’t thought about those traveling up and down Highlands Highway daily or Bulumski Highway or Ramu Highway or the sea transportation between our coastal provinces. It clearly shows you gave the order as per outside directions. Shame on you controller. Shame.

  • IAN ANTHONY KEWA, a very good statement there brother,

Believe in our country that we will go through this hard times, create measures which can be more helpful, fair, respectful, and healthy. It’s better to be like this than making life hard for Papua New Guineans with all sorts of measures which indirectly affecting almost everybody whether socially, physically, psychologically, spiritually and economically.

Whether we take the vaccine or not, there also other deadly diseases which are currently forgotten about that could take us out any time.

    Please be wise and fair!!

  • God will stop covid instantly if we change the evil ways we do and follow him. We seems like forgetting God at this time of affliction and pandemic. Its about time to repent and confess our wrong doing and say I won’t do this damn thing again. If we change, covid will be chased away. God used many surrounding nations to destroy and invade Israel because they didn’t follow him. When they feel the pain, they repented and said we now will follow you. God heard their prayers and saved them but all of a sudden some time later, they defile God by doing evils again so God had to sent much bigger nations like Assyria to invade Israel. This is exactly happening today. When God sees that no one is able to listen and follow from the first wave, the second wave came and again we could not abide him so the third wave is around the corner known as Delta Variant.
It is the leaders, pastors and the people of this nation to humble ourselves before our Creator and confess our wrong doings and make a strong decision to follow him. God is ours (PNGs) and if we do that, the covid will run away from our beautiful nation.

The simple thing the world should do now is to turn to our Creator the God Almighty then the covid will run away.

Thank you and God bless PNG!

  • We are already tired of the measures in place. Funds been diverted in Covid-19. People are living with the SICK and it’s a HEALTH DEPARTMENT issue. Let the health DEPARTMENT controlled through their routine way.
GOD IS WATCHING AND PNG CITIZENS ARE WATCHING WHERE THE TAX PAYERS MONIES ARE USED.
