THE Central Nakanai rural local level government has been formally recognised as a new LLG of Talasea district in West New Britain.

Governor Sasindran Muthuvel launched the new LLG last Saturday, saying the government had allocated K700,000 for infrastructure and building projects for Talasea.

He also launched a VSat service for internet access and other communication needs for the new LLG.

Muthuvel said the Nigilani Primary School, Hoskins Secondary and Kandrian High School would also receive VSat communication access this year.

Acting provincial administrator Steven Raphael said the LLG depended on good governance, administration and ample funding to be sustainable.

He added that the provincial government and administration would continue to upgrade the Ceneka LLG.

Raphael also confirmed that the contract for electricity supply had been signed and there would be upgrading and building of four LLG manager’s houses.

Positions would be advertised for public servants to take up postings in the LLG, he said.

LLG planner Alois Waluka was commended by the WNB government for spearheading the initiative.

“I am a happy man; all the hard work over the years has borne fruit. But there is still more to do, the next mission for the team with the support from Governor Muthuvel is the breaking up of two existing electorates to four or five smaller districts in order to attain effective and quality service delivery,” he said.

The new LLG brings to 13 LLGs for the province.
