Talks held on how to address root of HIV/AIDS

CHURCH leaders are discussing at a conference how they can address the “root cause” of the spread of HIV-AIDS in the country.
Cardinal Sir John Ribat, the chairman of the PNG Christian Leaders Alliance on HIV and AIDS, said the summit was to bring the heads of churches together to discuss HIV so that “we can work together with one voice”.
He said the summit was not about solving the HIV and AIDS problem in the country.
“It is more about finding a solution through a collective effort that will have an impact on the attitudes and behaviours of individuals and communities,” he said.
National coordinator Andrew Hama said the objective was for church leaders to deliberate on HIV and related issues.
Hama said the summit was an opportunity for heads of churches to meet and report back on actions taken.
He said the leaders would discuss issues which could be in conflict with Christian faith.
