RABAUL Gurias outside back Elias Stanley has the potential to make the SP Hunters if he can play consistent rugby league in the Digicel Cup this season, says an official.
Gurias team manager Mapua Tamtu told The National yesterday that the Kokopo Muruks product was tall and elusive in attack.
The 23-year-old, who has been with the Agmark sponsored-club since 2018, is 192cm tall and can play on the wing or at fullback.
“Stanley has been with us (Gurias) for four years now and has developed into a good player over time,” Tamtu said.
“In his Digicel Cup debut year, he wasn’t that confident. He used to be nervous and didn’t play to his full potential, but he has improved a lot.
“But he has been a threat to the opposition this season.
“Last week, he put on an outstanding performance against Goroka Lahanis and he won the man of the match award.
“He’s very tall.
“If he can put on more weight and be consistent then he may have a chance of cracking it into the Hunters squad in future.”
Tamtu said former Gurias coach and current Kumuls boss Michael Marum was a mentor and role model to young players like Stanley who came through the Gurias’ development programme.
