GOVERNOR for New Ireland Sir Julius Chan has expressed his sadness over the passing of former People’s Progress Party Tanir president Philip Saputan.

“It is with great sorrow and sadness that we hear of the passing of a loyal friend and outstanding community leader who served New Ireland, Tanir local level government and Tanga island with dignity,” Sir Julius, the party leader, said.

He said Saputan had a devoted career in politics and the Tanir LLG had indeed lost a great elder.

Sir Julius said Saputan served as chairman of the council of elders for Tanir LLG at the time of his death.

“His family should be proud of him, he always carried out his commitment with foresight and believed in the Malagan declaration and served with passion and dedication and for that he has left a challenge for us to carry on,” Sir Julius said.

“We cannot question God’s will or His mysterious ways and divine nature. He has a reason for everything and we must rise from our deep loss of loved ones and continue with our own lives and calling.”

Sir Julius extended his condolences to Saputan’s family on behalf of the party and his government.
