TARI Rugby Football League has thrown its support behind incumbent Sandis Tsaka to remain chairman of PNG Rugby Football League.
Rex Humbi told The National in Port Moresby that his remote league has backed Tsaka as he has done a tremendous job so far in rugby league.
“He has spearheaded many changes in rugby league in the country, including the procurement of the rights to co-host the 2017 Rugby League World Cup pool matches in Port Moresby,” Humbi, pictured, said.
“He also has been the driving force behind the PNG Hunters, with the support of the corporate firms, to ensure the country’s team plays well in the Queensland Cup competition.”
Though he is not a keen supporter of rugby league confederates, the Tari man has put his hands up to challenge veteran Joe Tokam for the Highlands Rugby League Confederate job. “I have numbers to unseat long-serving Highlands zone director Tokam. We need new blood to drive the game forward,” he said.
He said the directors were doing the same job as the development officer.
“It is a duplication of job descriptions so one has to make room for  the other to ensure the much-needed financial assistance reach the rural population.”
Humbi is also the chairman of Hela Rugby League which oversees the game in the Hela including Komo, Pureni, Hulia, Magarima and Tari.
Pureni Rugby League president Alois Aribi is endorsing Humbi to stand for the Highlands Rugby League Confederate directorship.
“Hela has one voice, and on behalf of the other affiliates, Pureni endorse Humbi,” Aribi said.
