THE taxation review committee headed by former tax chief Sir Nagora Bogan is completing its terms of reference for approval by the National Executive Council.

Sir Nagora, yesterday said he could not say much pending approval of the terms of reference by the council.

Treasury Secretary Dairi Vele said the committee started work on Sept 1 and had already convened two meetings.

“After a lot of prepatory work, the tax review committee convened on Sept 1,” he said.

“They’ve had two meetings already, just getting to understand how things are going to work and how they’re going to interact with Internal Revenue Commission and Department of Treasury.

Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks, we can announce some of the early findings of the tax review committee in the 2014 budget.”

Treasurer Don Polye said the committee needed to shore up revenue collection for the government.

“We’re supposed to collect up to K1 billion or so, from people not complying,” he said.
