TAXPAYERS have been urged to use online services made available to them by the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC).
Commissioner-General Sam Koim said this following the closure of the IRC offices in Wabag and Jiwaka this week due to election-related incidents.
“Our alternative business office recently opened in Hagen will service taxpayers,” he told The National yesterday.
“Taxpayers can (also) access payment and filing online, including MyIRC online portal.”
On when the two IRC offices are expected to be re-opened, Koim said they were monitoring the situation on the ground regarding the general election.
The new MyIRC platform will enable online payments for all tax types.
It is a way to interact with IRC.
Koim said using the payment portal inside MyIRC meant real-time management, reconciliation, and receipting of taxpayers’ accounts.
He said when the platform began last year: “Our clients no longer need to wait in a line at a service centre when they can go online on their computer, tablet or smartphone and pay their taxes.”
Meanwhile, the IRC collected a K5.945 billion revenue in the first half of this year.
It is K1.28 billion more than its projected half year revenue for the year.
“This historic collection is a result of the transformation of the revenue authority under its current leadership,” Koim said.
“The collections for the first six months of this year were projected to be around K4.690 billion, factoring in two of the three provisional taxes to be collected in the year’s second half.
“The total tax revenue collected for the first half of 2022 is K5.945 billion.
“This is K1.28 billion (21 per cent) above the 2022 projections and K2.28 billion (38 per cent) above the 2021 corresponding period.
“All tax types performed very strongly compared to the 2021 corresponding period, signalling a rebound from the Covid-19.”
