SOUTHERN Highlands is one of the nine provinces with high tuberculosis cases, a medical officer says.

Dr Emmanuel Andrew of the Mendi General Hospital revealed this during World TB Day celebration in Mendi, last Monday.

He confirmed that in a month, they were seeing six TB patients on average.

The celebration was facilitated by Augustine Brian of World Vision with the support of the provincial health office.

Present were Dr Joseph Birisi, Michael Mambu and officials from Mendi Hospital and the Southern Highlands provincial health office.

Dr Andrew said TB was on the rise in HIV patients.

“It is now a new policy that TB patients are screened for HIV and HIV patients are screened for TB,” he said.
