Teacher crushed by high freight costs

PEOPLE from Yopna, Urua and Som (YUS) including other remote areas of Kabwum in Morobe get their goods and services delivered from the air.
And because of that, Sapmanga Primary School head teacher Hitiringke Rubape is unhappy that air fares and freight charges are too high.
He said North Coast Aviation is currently charging an air fare of over K300 and freight charges of K5.40 per kilo.
“Some years ago both NCA and Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) served and because of competion, it was OK but now MAF is only serving on a charter basis,” he said.
He called on the leaders to leave their political differences aside and work for the people’s interest.
Former YUS LLG president Kitowe Mumusiong, who is heading the building programme at the new YUS High School, said the increased freight will affect the transportation of materials.
“Due to increased prices, we now buy 1kg packet of rice for K12, when it is less than K5 in Lae,” Rubape said.
