WORLD Environment Day is a time to reflect and teach young generations the importance of the environment and what it does to people and animals, a teacher says. Port Moresby’s Wardstrip Demonstration Primary School deputy head teacher Sussie Ure told The National that the day was important to her because plants, flowers, trees, birds and animals build and beautify places.
“If there is no environment, the place will be bear and dusty, so World Environment Day is very important,” she said.
“We need to observe the day closely.” Ure told her students that people and animals depended on the environment and they should respect them. “When you cut down or damage a tree, you must replant to restore the environment because trees produce oxygen and home for the animals too,” she said.
