TEACHERS’ accommodation is a big problem in the National Capital District, according to NCD education services director Tau Nauna.
Nauna said from about 1,900 teachers in NCD only 109 teachers were housed and the rest resolving to living in either settlement areas or with spouses who are provided with houses.
Speaking during the official launch of three brand new teachers houses at Bomana Primary School he said with political will there will be development in schools.
Nauna commended Moresby Northeast MP Andrew Mald for his commitment and contribution for the timely assistant.
He said the MP’s gesture were very much appreciated and was a way forward on addressing teachers’ acute housing problem.
He said that Mald through his commitment had also helped the school work towards achieving one of universal basic education’s pillars.
One pillar of implementation of UBE’s was infrastructure development.
NCD services manager Yopi Yopi said with the limited resource allocation and more than 100 schools, it was difficult to build houses for all schools.
While thanking Mald for his initiative, Yopi called on other NCD MPs to assist them in the NCD education programmes.
He added that the Mald’s help would go a long way and the school was privileged that the member had opted to show the school his support.
The occasion was described as a first for the 12-year-old school.
