Teachers complete different levels

Letters

WE have different groups of teachers in primary schools.
These teachers have met different qualifications set by the Education Department to enter teacher’s colleges.
There are teachers with grade 10 qualifications and a certificate in primary teaching; teachers with a grade 10 certificate with converted primary teaching certificates to diploma; and teachers with grade 12 certificates with diplomas.
Primary schools inspectors need to familiarise themselves with the timelines and the teachers’ year groups, according to the standards and values set by the Education Department.
It is not acceptable to bring one inspection requirement rule for everyone across the board.
For instance, directing every teaching staff to present both grade 10 and 12 certificates is completely wrong.
There is a particular group that may respond to that instruction.
Others respond according to the way they were accepted to enroll in PTC (Primary Teachers Certificate) and granted full registration as teachers.
During my term as the assistant minister for education, I realised that the fall out rate for teachers per year continued to increase and the number of teacher graduates joining the teaching field every year was insufficient.
So be careful when enforcing inspection rules.
As a former secondary school principal, I heard many stories from teachers from Nawaeb District Primary Schools and I believe such challenges exist in other Morobe districts and primary schools around the nation.
My advice is strictly go by the rules that governs those various groups of teachers.
