Teachers deserve risk allowance

Letters

TEACHERS deserve to be paid risk allowances.
They are frontline service providers serving students in bigger numbers daily.
According to the World Health Organisation, people at the age of 40 and above are highly vulnerable to the coronavirus and with no doubt, most of our teachers are in that age group.
Such monetary request is justified while they are actually serving the people now.
Take into account the population of students packed to capacity in classrooms.
The students spend about eight hours in the schools in the care of teachers.
In comparison there is no other work force in the government or private sector that serves a larger number of clients on a daily basis.
That is only done by teachers.
Teachers should be the first that deserve to receive risk allowances if included in the Covid-19 budget by the government.
