Teachers’ suspension explained

ANY head teacher or deputy head teacher who faces allegations of misappropriation of school funds are to be suspended from teaching and the payroll, an official says.
Teaching Service Commission (TSC) chairman Samson Wangihomie told The National that it was the rule and they were following it.
“If TSC is getting reports of head teachers and deputy head teachers misappropriating funds and other allegations – and if they are arrested – we will quickly suspend them,” he said.
“They will be suspended from the payroll while they wait to go before the court.
“If they win the case, we will have them restored and get their pay backdated.
“If they go to jail, we will terminate them from the teaching service.”
Wangihomie said they had such cases in Jiwaka and Central.
“With disciplinary cases, termination is evident if they (teachers) are found guilty,” he said.
“We want our teachers to be the best.
“But when they start to do things that are contrary to their duty statements, we come down hard on them.”
Meanwhile, officers from TSC are going out to the schools in the National Capital District to do a spot-check on teachers.
Wanghihomie said the exercise was to see who was present in the classroom and who was not.
“We want everybody to be where they are supposed to be and teach,” he said.

  • what about politicians labeled on collar crimes or allegation of public funds stealing millions of kina…and yet they are on pay roll system of govt… teachers are humble servants of the nation… be considerate when amending TSC acts or making rules…

  • You suspend teachers from payroll but teachers and salary workers collaborate and restore teachers on payroll. Most teachers float around and receive pays.
